Eugene F. Epstein
(PhD, professor)

Born in 1904 in Odessa.

First studied on the faculty (1921-1922) and then in Dnepropetrovsk Mining Institute (1922-1929 years) and qualified mining engineer with a specialty heolohorozviduvalnyk.

Since the beginning of his career working in Eugene F. geological organizations Donbas regional geologist, technical director, chief engineer of Geological trust "Stalinskvuhillya" took part in search and exploration of various minerals - coal, mercury, polymetallic ores.

From 1932 he worked as assistant professor of "intelligence matter" in the DRI, then from 1934 to 1941 - managed by the same department. During the Great Patriotic War, Eugene F. worked as manager of the trust "Zapsibtsvyetmyetrozvidka" in Tomsk. In a short time under his leadership in Tuva were explored deposits of cinnabar, and organized extraction of mercury. For significant contributions in business organiza-tion victory in 1942 he was awarded the Order "Badge of Honor".

In 1945, Eugene F. moved to Dnepropetrovsk and his life has been associated with teaching and scientific research institute of mining:

1945-1957 biennium - head of the department of intelligence affairs DRI;

1957-1975 biennium - manages the newly founded department "Technology Intelligence RSC";

1975-1984 biennium - Professor.

His scientific work for the degree of Ph.D. He defended on the Academic Council at the Moscow Mining Institute in March 1938, approved at the rank of associate professor in March 1946, doctorate degree he received in June 1956 and from August 1957 he - Professor. While heading over in '38 Chair Professor Epstein EF proved himself an excellent organizer and skilful leader of teaching and scientific work of the department, an excellent teacher and tutor students. While working at the institute with his participation prepared about four thousand engineers heolohorozviduvalnykiv. Among them - the well-known leaders of geological services of the country, academics, Laureate of Lenin and State prizes.

Epstein EF - A famous scientist in the field of rock failure, technology and engineering drilling exploration wells. He developed the basis of shock-rotational drilling, a new method of determining the mechanical properties of rocks, a number of methods for solving problems with technology and engineering exploration of mineral deposits.

Under his leadership, prepared and defended a doctoral and more than 30 master's theses. He has more than 200 published works, the other including 7 monographs and 50 inventions, a number of works translated and published in the U.S., France, Czechoslovakia, Poland.

Training and educational and scientific work, he successfully combined with active participation in social and political life. During the years of work at the Institute at various times he has served as: Deputy district board members of the working people, a member of the Presidium of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee of trade unions of workers of high school, chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk house scientists and the head of the local institute.

Soviet government awarded its award-winning work:

1945 - awarded the medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War";

1949 - to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Mining Institute, he was awarded among the teachers of the second order "Badge of Honor" and the medal "For Valiant Labor" and an "Miner's glory" of the 3rd degree and a silver medal VDNH.

Eugene F. is an eminent scientist in the methods, techniques and technology exploration and prospecting of various minerals.

Died in January 1984.
